House Resolution 7

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. BOBBY BARRETT FOR BEING NAMED MISSISSIPPI'S OUTSTANDING LOGGER OF THE YEAR FOR 1998 BY THE MISSISSIPPI FORESTRY ASSOCIATION.

WHEREAS, Mr. Bobby Barrett has been named Mississippi's Outstanding Logger of the Year for 1998 by the Mississippi Forestry Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett, owner of Barrett Logging, was asked to be a nominee and was interviewed by the members of the Lauderdale County Forestry Association; and

WHEREAS, after qualifying as one of the state finalists, Mr. Barrett encountered another round of interviews with state forestry officials; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett received his award at the Mississippi Forestry Association Convention in Biloxi, Mississippi, on October 27 through October 29, 1998; and

WHEREAS, before getting into the logging industry, Mr. Barrett was a cotton and soybean farmer for more than thirty years, winning Lauderdale County's Outstanding Young Farmer Award six times; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett, a lifelong resident of Toomsuba, Mississippi, founded Barrett Logging, Inc., in 1991, which is fully mechanized and employs a crew of eleven that logs year round, weather permitting; and

WHEREAS, Barrett Logging hauls wood to many different manufacturers such as furniture, wood flooring and paper companies; and

WHEREAS, Barrett Logging, a family-owned and operated company, has a clean safety record with five years of accident-free operation; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett is a member of several professional organizations such as the Mississippi Loggers Association, the Mississippi Forestry Association and the Lauderdale County Forestry Association; and

WHEREAS, a leader in his community, Mr. Barrett also serves on the board of directors of the Toomsuba Water Association, the Lauderdale County Farm Bureau and the Lauderdale County Farm Service Agency; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, Carolyn, and their children, Mark and Kim; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives finds it most appropriate to recognize and commend such outstanding leaders as Mr. Bobby Barrett, a fine example of a successful family man and businessman:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Bobby Barrett for being named Mississippi's Outstanding Logger of the Year for 1998 by the Mississippi Forestry Association and extend our heartiest wishes in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Bobby Barrett and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
